Colour matching for automotive, industrial and restoration projects

Breakwells can work from recognised colour references—including automotive OEM codes, RAL and British Standard colours—and can also assess a representative physical sample when the original specification is unknown, weathered or no longer practical to identify.

Start with the strongest reference you have

If a valid manufacturer or standard colour code exists, use it. For automotive jobs, a registration can help narrow the likely vehicle palette, but it does not replace confirmation of the OEM paint code where several variants are possible. Start with our Automotive Paint & Colour Matching service.

When a physical sample is better

Older vehicles, machinery, cladding, narrowboats and repainted surfaces can drift away from the original specification through UV exposure, weathering, repairs and previous refinishing. In these cases a clean, representative sample can give the mixer a more useful target.

Approval and repeatability

For suitable custom-matched work, a spray-out can be produced to compare the mixed coating with the reference before the main job is painted. A confirmed custom formulation can also be recorded under an internal reference to support future repeat orders.
