When Breakwells creates a suitable colour match from a physical sample, the confirmed mix can be recorded as a formulation reference. The formulation records the controlled mix used to produce that colour so a future order can start from the same reference rather than requiring the original sample-matching process again.

When formulation is valuable

• Historic or restoration colours without a convenient standard code
• Brand or equipment colours matched from a physical sample

Surface ageing, substrate and application method can still affect appearance, so a formulation reference should be treated as the repeat paint specification—not a guarantee that an aged surrounding surface has remained visually unchanged.
